Cameroon's star striker, Samuel Eto'o was guest on the French TV channel TF1 on Sunday 5 October during the football show - Telefoot. He was interviewed about his relationship with Thierry Henri and the way the season was going but also asked to comment the current challenges facing French Football.
After a reportage about the crisis rocking the France national team with criticism from Zidane and goalkeeper Gregory Coupet, The TELEFOOT team suggested a probable line-up for France ahead of their game against Rumania. Then they asked Eto'o and what he thought about the squad.
In his response, Eto'o looked and sounded startled that there was so much pressure on the French headcoach Raymond Domenech to resign. The Cameroonian insisted that, if France was playing badly it is the players who have to take the blame and not the coach.
He also said that the France national side had good players but he wasn't sure about their frame of mind. He alluded to players loving their country when he related the situation to the Indomitable Lions.
When asked about the difficulties French teams are facing in the champions League, Eto'o explained that to win Europe's top competition, a club has to have huge financial means to acquire the right players. He said French teams are still short of such quality although Lyon is making some effort. He hoped for Lyon that they might finally move to another level by maybe reaching the semi-finals this time around. He also had kind words for Olympic Marseille.
The Cameroonian was speaking less than 24 hours after scoring a brace in FC Barcelona's 6-1 trouncing of Athletico Mardrid. Samuel Eto'o had boarded a jet to Paris after the game played on Saturday 4 October where he was supposed to meet his mother. He would then proceed to Cameroon to join his Indomitable Lions teammates to prepare Cameroon's last first round World Cup 2010 qualifier against the Mauritius Island.
